Ok, this could go here or in General Discussion, and I'm probably going to Post this in the Official forums when I get chance as well. But were you guys the reason that MGM pulled the licenses from the Stargate: The Alliance game?

(I don't mean "is it your fault" I know MGM is greedy and protective, I just wanted to know if it Stargate Worlds was a factor in there decision.)

IGN:
Stargate SG-1: The Alliance puts players in the action-packed universe of the hit Stargate SG-1 television series.

Despite anticipation from the fan base, this game became embroiled in a legal battle between the developer and its publishing interests, and while the title was due to continues to completion, the game failed to materialize. Stargate SG-1: The Alliance has not been officially cancelled by any formal announcement, but all indications (at least, those which can be made without irking the ire of any involved lawyers) have the project as cancelled.

Wiki:
The game was said to have been based upon the events of the SG-1 seasons; the player was able to select their character for a mission and fulfill the roles of that character as seen in the TV show.
According to IGN.Com, an "administrator posting in the game's official forum stating that the game has been cancelled", although no official notice has surfaced.[1]
It was confirmed that the Alliance part of the name referred to the Alliance between Anubis and the new enemy, Haaken.[2] The Haaken have never appeared in the TV show, they are a new alien race that was created by the developer's concept artists and game designers.

As far as I can tell, there is a "Legal Gag" over the whole thing. No one can give any info on it, and even screenshots and Trailers have been removed from some gamer sites. (For a trailer: http://stargateworlds.filefront.com/file/Stargate_The_Alliance_Offical_Trailer_2;42053)

It's a shame because it was going to be a great Co-op game for Small LANs.

And just some info for those that never heard of it, it was announced in 2005, It was to be produced by JoWood Australia, which excited us Aussies :P, for Playstation 2, PC and XBOX. After about 6 months development, during which Jowood produced a most awesome website with some kick ass Screenies and Trailers. It looked as though it was going to be a bit like Republic Commando, but based on a good story ;)

Anyway, around the time that PS2 Official Magazine was predicting its release date, and drooling over their virtual RDA, The whole thing was put on Hold for no apparent reason. Then information started leaking out that MGM had revoked JoWood rights to the Stargate Franchise, Making Gamers and Stargate fans alike cry for the Sam Carters. (I am serious bout this BTW : http://new.petitiononline.com/SGTA/petition.html)

After about another 6 months I was just browsing the web for special things (roughly June 2006 I think) and I stumbled across SGW in Google search, was like huh? And after to Interactive Media Sessions later, had already read every Forum Thread about it I could find.

Now I am back after yet another 6 months, and I was wondering what the hell happened to the Alliance for real, I mean yeah it's gone, but why? And is it likely that we will see it in the future. Obviously you may not be able to answer these questions, but no one else can, so I though it was worth a shot.

Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment partnered with MGM in September 2005 for the development Stargate Worlds. They have/had no relationship with Perception, the developers of Stargate the alliance.

In actual fact, three of the current CME team started investigating the possibility of making a Stargate MMO years before the partnership with MGM was announced (so years before Sept 2005).

The two games are totally different and the teams behind them were not partnered in any way. Let me reassure you that SGW going into development was not the reason that SGTA was cancelled.

The way things happened were that SG:TA was in production for a while and the guys who came up with the idea for an SG MMOG approached MGM separately. One deal was unraveling but the Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment group was unaware of this until just before the announcement of the cancellation of SG:TA. I worked at CME at that time and we actually pushed our own announcement about SGW out a few weeks in respect and deference to the SG:TA team.

Cancellation of the FPS game had nothing to do with the greenlight of the MMOG project. In fact, the team at CME at the time lamented the fact that we couldn't have both games, side by side, to attract a vast number of different players from the SG and gaming base. The two games are so different they would have complemented each other. The Stargate Brand is so vast that these two games would have coexisted in the gaming universe very well.

I hope this answers your question or at least adds a bit to what Bunter already explained. :)
